Kickin' ass and takin' names...

MAN, today was a good day at the gym!!  For the past week or so, I've been waking up about 4:15-4:30 am.  Every stinkin' day.  I know it's due to the chaos going on around here.  But, this lack of sleep has been screwing up my workouts.  I always try and fall back asleep, but it never works.  Today was no different.  I think I may have dozed from about 5:20-5:30, then again from 6:25-6:45, but seriously, that's it.  After that, I was afraid to fall asleep because I wanted to make sure Stud got his lazy butt up for school on time.  On Tuesday, he missed the first hour of class!  Ugh!

Anyway, I stayed up.  I was lying there thinking, "Oh, great, another day I'll be dragging at the gym."  I ended up staying home until Stud left for school, and Magnum left for his parents' house.  I didn't get to the gym until about 10am.  And, guess what.  I felt great!!!

I was a little discombobulated at first because for the first time EVER, someone was using my machine.  The nerve!!  Seriously, though, I always use the exact same elliptical machine every day, so it threw me a little to have to use a different one.  I know, get a life, ChiTown!

Once I got going on the "new" machine, though, I was a monster!!  Check it out:

1/23/13

The last couple of days have really been a struggle around here.  My body is just not cooperating.  I feel really sluggish.  I would imagine part of that is that I got my period the other day.  (Sorry, boys!  More TMI coming, just to warn you!)  I usually just want to sleep for the first few days, and not get out of bed.  As I've gotten older, my periods have really just gotten harder to deal with, and really take a lot out of me.

The other problem is that things around here, like I've said, have been less than ideal lately, and the stress is getting to me.  As you can see, I didn't make it to the gym yesterday. I just couldn't do it.  I was having lots of cramps and hemorrhaging, which didn't help, either.

But, I was there bright and early this morning!  I'm still not feeling 100%, so even though I pushed myself, I couldn't quite hit the level I was at less than a week ago.  But, it's ok, I'm not going to worry about it right now.

1/21/13

You may have noticed there was no post yesterday.  If you did, thank you for not mentioning it!

Yes, I skipped the gym yesterday.  (GASP!)  I just couldn't do it.  I woke up to another 2 pounds gone, though, which made me happy.  But, I'm afraid that has a lot to do with the aforementioned stress level as of late, and the fact that I haven't really eaten in about 4 days.  I know, that's NOT good, but it's really not intentional.  The knot in my stomach just won't let me eat.  I tried on Saturday, and basically threw up all day. 

So, between the crappy sleep, the high stress, and the no food, my body just said, "I quit."  And, I figured I should listen.  I don't want to hurt myself somehow by pushing too hard.

This morning, however, I had already decided that come hell or high water, I was dragging my ass to the gym.  I was there bright and early, and by 6am, I was on the elliptical.  I still felt like I was dragging, but I figured I wasn't going to worry about it.  As long as I kept moving for the 65 minutes, I wasn't going to focus on the numbers.  Well, yeah, that lasted about 15 minutes.  For the next 15 minutes, I just kept telling myself there was no way I was going to hit 5 miles, and I suck.  For the next 15 minutes, I really tried to step it up, and I was feeling pretty good.  For the last 15 minutes, I realized I just might be able to pull it off if I REALLY stepped it up.  Here's where I ended up after 65 minutes:

WHEW!!  I was able to hit 5 miles!!  I'm not thrilled with the fact that my calories burned keeps going down with my weight, but it is what it is.  I suppose I'm still burning calories on the machines, but I have no way to know how many.  I just need to stop obsessing over it, huh?

For a couple of reasons, I added a new machine today.  First, because my quads have been a bit sore.  I actually had to cut back on the Donkey Kicks because for some reason, I REALLY feel it in my quads, even though it's supposed to tone your behind.  I only did half today.  The second reason for the new machine is that I've been dying to do something for my arms since I started at the gym, but I just didn't know what to do.  Today, I sucked it up, and checked out a few machines all by my big self, and decided on the shoulder press machine.  I have ZERO upper body strength, so it was tough.

1/19/13

Ok, today is apparently the day my body finally decided to scream, "Hey, fuck off!!  I'm tired!!"  Although, first let me share that when I weighed in this morning, I was down another 2 pounds.  That's 4 pounds in 2 days, so I don't know what the hell is going on.  However, things around La Casa de ChiTown have been a bit stressful lately (ok, a LOT stressful) and that probably has something to do with it.  Whatever, I'll take it!

Anyway, back to my lazy body.  I could NOT fall asleep last night for some reason (probably the aforementioned stress) so I was up until after midnight.  Then, somehow, (and don't ask me cuz I don't know!) I managed to set the freakin' alarm on my freakin' phone to go off at 5am!!  I don't even USE the alarm on my phone, so I seriously have NO clue how that happened.  Well, I immediately turned it off and tried to go back to sleep, but no go.  I tossed and turned for about an hour and a half before finally saying "Fuck it!" and got dressed and went to the gym. 

The combination of not enough sleep (those of you who've been around a while KNOW I need my 8 hours!!) and really pushing myself lately must have been too much for this old body.  My legs felt like they were trapped in quick sand.  I was ready to stop at 10 minutes.  Then I told myself, "At least do 15!"  Then it was, "Ok, you can stop at 30, that's good."  which then became 45, and finally I just did my whole 65 minutes.  However, I was moving in slow motion, which you'll see in a second when I get to my numbers.  I did my usual stretching after (which I've never mentioned, but I use this piece of stretching equipment, which I LOVE) but skipped all the machines.  I just couldn't do it.  I did NOT, however, skip my double Hydro Massage.  Ahhhh...I seriously almost fell asleep during the second one.  It was so hard to get up and walk out to my car.

I noticed today when I was recording my numbers in my phone that even though my mileage went up (no matter how slightly) my calories went down a bit.  It occurred to me that it must be because my weight has gone down.  When I start the elliptical, it asks for your weight, which I'm sure it uses to calculate calories burned.  Well, the less I weigh, the less calories I'm burning, right?  That's ok, I'll take the lower calories if that means lower weight!

I HIT 50 POUNDS TODAY!!!

And, that's all I have to say.  Ironically, I haven't even gone to the gym yet today, despite the fact that it's 5pm.  Long story short, I was literally on the phone for 4 1/2 hours with my sister today.  She called right as I was walking out the door for the gym.  We were working on something for a party we're having for our Daddy in March.  It's a combined 70th Birthday/Retirement party.  We wrote a little something to read at the party.  I won't bore you with the details. 

In my head, I'm still going to try and get there at some point tonight.  I hope.

But, in the meantime...

I'VE LOST 50 POUNDS!!

I did a Hydro Massage yesterday, and today I did TWO!!  Sadly, the massages are only set for 5 minutes at a time.  Not NEARLY enough time!!  That morning I met with the personal trainer, she had said you could have as many as you like.  So this morning, since I was there at the butt crack of dawn on a Sunday, there weren't many people there.  I asked the cute boy at the desk if I could go twice, as long as no one else was waiting, and he said "Sure!"  The second one was REALLY great because I changed the settings so that the massage only went from my hips to my neck.  Ahhhhh!!!  Pure heaven!  (Normally it goes from your head to your feet, which is also very nice!)  I think I'm going to have to do two every day now.  Man, I'm getting spoiled!!  This is gonna be the best $10 a month I've EVER spent! =)

1/10/13
This was the day I thought I was getting Monkey.  The night before, we met my brother for dinner, then I went back to the bar with him to help him make food.  I had been up since 4am, and I was fading fast.  I ended up getting home a little after 2am, got to bed at 2:30am, but woke up around 5:30 when Magnum got up.  I stayed up, since I assumed I was getting Monkey.  Well, finally at close to 8:30, I texted her mom, only to find out she took her over to her parents' house for the day.  WTF?! 

Since I had only slept about 3 hours, I decided to lie down, and fell asleep at maybe 9:30.  I actually slept until about 2 in the afternoon!  When I woke up, I decided I needed to get to the gym.  However, I wasn't feeling so hot.  My body felt like lead.  I'm thinking it's probably because it had been about 20 hours since I'd eaten anything.  I went to the gym anyway, but regretted it pretty quickly.  I just could not get moving.  I ended up only doing about 30 minutes on the elliptical, and then I had to leave.  Here are my numbers anyway.

I came home, took a shower, and got in bed with Magnum to watch a movie.  I prepared a bunch of snacks, which the poor guy didn't even get to taste.  I was starving!!  He was in so much pain, he didn't even care.

Oh, wait, I guess I forgot to mention this.  He had gone to the gym at our usual time, but was home in about a half hour.  I knew immediately something was wrong.  He pulled/strained something in his back, and has been dying ever since.  I KNOW he's in a lot of pain, because he has basically been immobile.  He didn't even go to his parents' house today, which is unbelievable.  He also made arrangements last night for people to cover his shift at work today.  He spent the rest of yesterday in bed, with me putting Icy/Hot on his back every couple of hours.  He slept most of the day.  The longest he was awake was during the movie we watched.  Then he was dozing again.

When I left for the gym this morning, I left him in bed, after applying some Icy/Hot.  When I came home 2 hours later, he had gotten up and moved to the chair in the living room.  But, he was clearly in a LOT of pain.  I pulled out the heating pad, and set him up in the chair.  He hasn't really moved since then, and it's late afternoon now.  I feel so bad for him.

I didn't do any Donkey Kicks today, since my legs were still feeling a bit leaden.  I DID, however, take advantage of my newly upgraded membership, and enjoyed the hell out of a Hydro Massage.  I need to start doing that every day.  (I don't think I shared that I upgraded, did I?  I upgraded to the Black Card last week.  It's only $10 more a month (now I pay $20/month) but it's SO worth it.  The main reason I did it is so that Stud can come with us.  Black Card members can bring a guest every time they go to the gym, and it can be the same person every single time.  We could have gotten Stud his own membership for $10 a month, but by upgrading, I can take advantage of all the Black Card perks.  Besides being able to bring a guest, I can get unlimited Chair Massages and Hydro Massages.  If you've never had a Hydro Massage, you totally should!!  I'm sure you can't even get ONE for $10, and I get to have one every day.  There are a few other perks like unlimited tanning (which I would never in a MILLION years use) and I can go to ANY Planet Fitness.  Anyway, Stud has been joining us, much to his dismay.  Magnum is determined to have him ripped by this summer.  Stud is NOT happy.)

Holy crap, how did FOUR days fly by...

...without me posting here?!  Shame on me!!

Ok, I sorta know how that happened.  The first post I missed was from the 4th.  That morning, literally 3 1/2 minutes into my workout, my brother called to see if I could take Monkey for the day.  Well, as my father likes to say, does a bear shit in the woods!?

My brother gave me a rough idea of when Monkey's mom was planning to leave, so I knew I would be able to do at least 30 minutes on the elliptical.  I REALLY pushed myself, since I knew I wouldn't be getting a full workout in for the day.  I told him to tell Monkey's mom to text when she was leaving to I could time my drive to make the pick up.  As it turns out, I was able to do 45 minutes.  They were 45 really HARD minutes, which was great!

By the time I left, this was what I was able to do:

I know I've been complaining about not seeing any pounds disappearing.  I've only lost 2 lbs since starting at the gym, but I'm trying not to worry about it.  I can definitely see changes in my body.  Plus, I'm down clothing sizes.  My "smallest" jeans are now at the point where I can get them on and off without unbuttoning or unzipping them.  That's great, except I have NOTHING that fits me now!!

Ooo, this is exciting!!!  I bought a couple of things yesterday at Walmart, including a kinda cute sweater that was on sale for $10.  It was (almost) a "normal" size!!!  (I say "normal" because I got it from the "normal" women's section, versus the plus size section)  I bought an extra large, but figured it would be too small, since the last top I bought was a 3X.  Well, lo and behold, it fit!!!  I made sure I got the opinions of my mother, sister and Magnum before taking the tags off, though. 

In the interest of full-disclosure, the last pants I bought were both stretchy, elastic-waisted AND a size 3X/24.  (And, they were tight)  The pants that I can now take off without unbuttoning are jeans, and are a size 18.  I'm going to try on some 16s this week.  Woo hoo!

The last bra size I bought was 42DD.  I'm now back in my Victoria's Secret 38D.  The last time I was "thin," I went from a 42DD to a 36B.  (that was with an 85lb weight loss.  I should post a picture one day.)  That would be great, if I were back in my 20s, and had a little less sag.  Now, the girls look like two completely deflated water balloons.  Boo.

Holy cow, what a post!!!  This is why I have to post every day, so you don't have to read a novel.  I'll try and do better this week. =)

I was really feeling yesterday's hard workout in my legs this morning.  I thought I would just go easy today, but then the adrenaline or endorphins or whatever the hell it is kicked in.  I actually surpassed yesterday's numbers!  Woo hoo!

I really wish I wasn't so scared to try new machines on my own, because I REALLY wanted to stay longer at the gym today.  I felt like I could have done another hour and a half.  But, I'm too embarrassed to try using unfamiliar machines because I know I'll look like an ass.  Magnum said that he would go with me on one of his off days to talk me through what I should be doing.  In the meantime, I'll just kill it on the machines I know. =)

(I'm starting to rethink tracking these totals now that I'm doing more machines.  I'm definitely NOT going to total my reps.  Well, for now, I like to see the totals, especially the mileage, so I'll keep doing it for a while longer.)

Ok, I'm looking at these totals and now I'm suddenly annoyed.  Based on the number of calories burned, that should equal about a 2 1/2 pound weight loss.  But, I'm only down ONE freakin' pound since joining the gym!  WTF?  Granted, I feel like a million bucks, which truthfully, is more important to me, but still.  Give a girl a break!
